Summary for Lead Technician 

Optisys is maturing and growing. As our business is expanding, we are seeking a Lead Technician as Optisys doubles in size and production capabilities. Optisys is pushing the envelope of what can be done with additive manufacturing.

The Optisys Lead Technician is responsible improving the shop performance of Optisys Processes as the company grows with a focus on critical processes for Dev Units, Low-Rate Production and outsourcing Production. This role is an excellent opportunity to apply Master Craftsman skills as Optisys doubles in size. 

This is a new role, due to the exponential increase in design work, specifically in electromagnetic antenna design. This role is located at the Optisys HQ in Salt Lake City, UT and reports to the Director of Operations. 

This is an excellent opportunity to join an expanding company that produces the leading edge of a metal 3D printed solution.

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

Master Craftsman for Optisys niche processes.

Become a Subject Matter Expert on the Optisys Production Processes that produce Engineering Development Models (EDM) Prototypes; First Articles and Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) Units

Perform Optisys Processes including the critical operations of: print; clean/pot/bond/lap and torque.

Responsible for Attention to Production Details.  This includes Safety/ FOD Reduction/ Shop Cleanliness,5-S and ordering Supplies.

Dedicated to driving the shop floor activities as the Production Manager delegate.

Maintain project documentation.  This includes in-process Epicor recording, closing out Production Jobs and capturing data from the mfg processes.

Resolve Production related Problems.

Facilitate new Process capabilities and capacities.

Improve Production Operations with LEAN/ Kaizen Events

Be an effective Team Player.

Some Travel may be required.

Requirements

Current US Citizenship or Current Permanent Green Card Holder

5 to 10 Years of Aerospace Experience / Production Shop Experience

Demonstrated expertise in Production product data and computer systems.  This includes Engineering Drawings with GD&T/ Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)-shop interface / Methods of Manufacture and Work Instructions.

Experienced at successfully performing shop processes to produce Aerospace products. (Good with your hands, mechanically inclined.  Good at metal work.)

Proven abilities to lead continuous quality improvements implemented in Production Processes.  Lean/5-S/6-Sigma are a plus.

Applicants must posses good work ethics and be disciplined to stay away from personal distractions.

Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check.

Self-starter who proactively looks for opportunities to add value to the company.

Geographic Location

This role is located at the OPTISYS Salt Lake offices. A relocation package is available.

Top Priorities During the First 6 Months: 

Learn Optisys Production Processes. (1 Month)

Become an expert in Optisys QMS/Document Management System
(2 Months) This includes Engineering Drawings/ Enterprise Resource Planning-shop interface / Work Instructions etc.

As coordinated with the Production Manager, identify the top 5 Production Line Problems. Create an Action Plan to resolve the Production Problems. (3 months)

Train/Mentor shop floor personnel on performing per Optisys documented Processes. Select 3 focus areas and complete training within 4 months.

Successfully implement 3 LEAN/Kaizen/5-S Events (Months 3 to 6)

Utilize Epicor Metric Reports to improve Production Throughput and On-Time Delivery by ___% (6 Months)

Compensation 

The annual On-Target base salary range is between $50K-$60K paid hourly at $25-$30/hr
There is an annual bonus based on performance.
The pay cycle is every other week.

Douglas Alford, Director of Operations & Hiring Manager

Doug has 30 years of Aerospace Operations Management experience including living a decade in Europe and Asia.  His expertise is building Teams and Production Lines to delivery Aerospace Products with an emphasize on final integration, test, delivery and support.  He is responsible for the people, paper (documentation) and processes to make Optisys Products.  He leads Quality including Root Cause, Corrective and Preventive Actions.  He is passionate about Continuous Process Improvements with LEAN, 6 Sigma, 5-S, Agile and Scrum!  Doug manages the Operations life cycle from Engineering Development Models through, Low Rate and Full Production including out-sourced capacity.

Janos Opra, CEO

Janos Opra has 17 years of experience in military communications systems ranging from RF engineer to business development to leadership. He has won multiple new business opportunities by coordinating with engineers, program management, and end users to develop products. These products had a market segment of over $100 million. Mr. Opra has a wide variety of industry contacts from his time spent in the aerospace industry. He has worked directly with high level military planners to establish project requirements and CONOPs for multimillion dollar hardware platforms and their supporting software.

Robert Smith, COO  (Hiring Manager)

Robert Smith has 23 years of experience designing and analyzing equipment and RF components to MIL-STD requirements and is an expert in metal additive manufacturing. For the past 4 years, he has focused his expertise on AM with an emphasis on aluminum RF components. With Optisys, Mr. Smith focuses on overseeing the design and fabrication of antenna products, pushing into new territory in metal AM processes.

Clinton Cathey, CSO

Clinton Cathey has 18 years of engineering experience, with the last 13 years of experience in communications systems ranging from ME/EE engineer to project lead. At Optisys, Mr. Cathey leads the company and provides technical and management direction. He is a preeminent expert in antennas and motion controls with specializations in pointing and tracking systems. His focus has been with industrial automation through airborne and shipboard motion stabilized and target tracking gimbals. He is an IEEE Senior Member and is an inventor on multiple patents related to tracking and SATCOM antennas

Michael Hollenbeck, CTO

Michael Hollenbeck has 14 years of experience designing and analyzing antenna and RF components for commercial and military communication systems. At Optisys, he designs cutting edge RF and antenna components using AM and provides technical direction for the company. Mr. Hollenbeck has led numerous projects, including design and simulation of complex RF components such as waveguide, antennas, arrays, and filters to critical success. He has worked on iterative designs to produce RF products in the 1-100 GHz (3-300 mm) ranges.
