Summary for Director of Operations  

We are seeking a change agent capable of developing diverse teams, collaboration, and solutions to today’s and future opportunities. We are seeking a consummate professional in both manufacturing, leadership, and organizational excellence ready to take ownership of our organization’s growth engine.

In this role, you will function as a central point of organizational success molding professionals in multiple disciplines to refine foundational activities and approaches into successful benchmarks for ourselves and our competitors. You will build heavily upon core functional areas of manufacturing, quality, supply, shipping, and receiving, and work closely with financial entities to ensure profitability.

As the Director of Operations, you will report directly to the COO, Rob Smith, and manage a success-based quantity of direct reports to achieve lean manufacturing alignment. You will integrate operations capabilities with program and development demands to support operational metrics. You will be critical to establishing and upholding key performance metrics and defining impactful resistant approaches to poor quality and improved opportunity capitalization. Your strengths will support communication, on-time delivery, quality, and customer success. Your leadership will generate compounding growth potential in our resources while fostering a healthy work environment. You will define resource needs and utilization in support of organizational strategy and growth objectives.

We are seeking someone with extensive manufacturing experience who has held Operations Manager, or Director of Operations positions and can weather the road ahead for a growing company. While technical efficiency is not a requirement it is a bonus to understand and interpret designs as well as process mapping. ERP Systems experience is a must.

This is an opportunity to work on the leading edge of metal 3D printed antennas, which are a novel class of antennas that allow for pushing the limits of what physics allows in antenna design. Optisys antennas can be found all around the world and out of this world in space. This position requires creativity and exploration of difficult design challenges to solve problems that have not been encountered before.

Key Requirements include:
Current US Citizenship or Current Permanent Green Card Holder.
5-10 years of experience in Aerospace Manufacturing Operations.

Duties and Responsibilities 

Support and oversee day-to-day company operations strategy, structure, & processes.

Support and oversee long-term company operations strategy, structure, & processes to support strategic growth.

Maintain Aerospace and Defense certification compliance initiatives (AS9100D, ISO9001, NADCAP, FAR / DFAR, etc..)

Establish a consistent, repeatable, manufacturing process of excellence for On-Time-Delivery (OTD) and Quality.

Develop metrics-based success margins aligned with strategic directions.

Mentor and manage direct staff and oversee talent development initiatives.

Develop and manage operating and capital budgets to achieve financial goals.

Establish and maintain Supply Chain and Commodity activities that support continuous operations and limit impacts to quality and OTD.

Drive a culture of accountability and results through effective, objectives-based, performance management.

Develop multidiscipline continuous improvement programs supporting strategy and immediate objectives equally.

Ability to balance long term manufacturing strategy and day-to-day execution

Balance capabilities and limitations with development and program demands constructively.

Establish and implement lean manufacturing principles and practices

Support ERP development and organizational integration where opportunities exist.

Improve independent and plant throughput, tact times, and efficiencies across operations.

Ensure quality systems performance nets consistent results aligned with industrial standards and contractual compliance

Coordinate support to operations throughout the business.

Provide regular performance updates to senior leadership team.

Maintain working knowledge of all phases of operations.

Support the safety, health, and wellbeing of all employees.

Requirements

Current US Citizenship or Current Green Card Holder

Bachelor’s degree in business, industrial engineering, or related field.

5-10 years of experience in Aerospace Manufacturing Operations.

Demonstrated experience in High Mix Low Volume (HMLV) Manufacturing

Standards, policy, and procedure development experience.

Demonstrated understanding of lean principles.

Proven track record as a team leader with an understanding of management practices.

Demonstrated project and budget management skills.

Strong Business acumen with a broad understanding of fundamental business principles.

Analytical problem-solving skills with impeccable attention to detail.

Ability to set overall strategy and drive process improvement.

Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and build consensus in a high-pressure environment.

Demonstrated fundamental expertise in ERP and PLM systems operations (SAP, Epicor, Teamcenter).

Proficiency in full Microsoft Suite.

Desired Experience

Demonstratable experience transitioning High Mix-Low Volume (HMLV) Manufacturing to Low Mix High Volume (LMHV)

Demonstrated Contract Manufacturing Integration for limited and full turn-key implementations.

Experience with Special Process manufacturing

MBA, MAC with industrial

Previous P&L responsibilities.

Program Management experience.

Geographic Location

This role is located at the OPTISYS Salt Lake offices. A relocation package is available for the right candidate.

Top Priorities During the First 6 Months

Establish an integrated master schedule that aligns requirements with deliverables.

Develop ERP-based production management & reporting improvements.

Evaluate QMS and support critical industrial and contractual gap closures.

Define aggressive waste and scrap rate reduction plan.

Compensation 

The total on-target compensation range of $175K- $220K  is a combination of a base salary plus a performance bonus based upon company performance and employee performance

Breakdown of Compensation: 
The annual On-Target base salary range is between $160K-$200K.
There is an annual performance bonus of $15K-$30K
There is an employee stock option program.
The pay cycle is every other week.

Executive Leadership

Janos Opra, CEO

Janos Opra has 17 years of experience in military communications systems ranging from RF engineer to business development to leadership. He has won multiple new business opportunities by coordinating with engineers, program management, and end users to develop products. These products had a market segment of over $100 million. Mr. Opra has a wide variety of industry contacts from his time spent in the aerospace industry. He has worked directly with high level military planners to establish project requirements and CONOPs for multimillion dollar hardware platforms and their supporting software.

Robert Smith, COO  (Hiring Manager)

Robert Smith has 23 years of experience designing and analyzing equipment and RF components to MIL-STD requirements and is an expert in metal additive manufacturing. For the past 4 years, he has focused his expertise on AM with an emphasis on aluminum RF components. With Optisys, Mr. Smith focuses on overseeing the design and fabrication of antenna products, pushing into new territory in metal AM processes.

Clinton Cathey, CSO

Clinton Cathey has 18 years of engineering experience, with the last 13 years of experience in communications systems ranging from ME/EE engineer to project lead. At Optisys, Mr. Cathey leads the company and provides technical and management direction. He is a preeminent expert in antennas and motion controls with specializations in pointing and tracking systems. His focus has been with industrial automation through airborne and shipboard motion stabilized and target tracking gimbals. He is an IEEE Senior Member and is an inventor on multiple patents related to tracking and SATCOM antennas

Michael Hollenbeck, CTO 

Michael Hollenbeck has 14 years of experience designing and analyzing antenna and RF components for commercial and military communication systems. At Optisys, he designs cutting edge RF and antenna components using AM and provides technical direction for the company. Mr. Hollenbeck has led numerous projects, including design and simulation of complex RF components such as waveguide, antennas, arrays, and filters to critical success. He has worked on iterative designs to produce RF products in the 1-100 GHz (3-300 mm) ranges.
