The Position
Reporting to the COO and working in the company’s headquarters in Stafford (VA), the Solutions Architect is responsible for providing customer requirements based engineering and technical solutions to the sales force.

The successful candidate:
– Will be self-motivated
– Demonstrates a proven engineering track record
– Has a current and broad demonstrated knowledge of Telecommunications and Satellite technology including Satellite Hub technologies (i.e. iDirect/Newtec etc.)
IP Networking (Terrestrial, VoIP etc)
– Demonstrated capability of performing technical requirements analysis, high-level satellite/terrestrial/IP network design, proposal cost development
– Has a demonstrated ability to provide support in various customer-facing activities including: Technical Presentations, Customer Requirements Meetings and Sales Calls.
– Must possess strong interpersonal and presentation skills and be able to communicate professionally in written responses to emails, RFPs, and when submitting reports
– The ideal candidate will be organized and analytical, able to eliminate obstacles through the development of creative and adaptive approaches to varying and complicated customer requirements.

Responsibilities include:
• Take leadership of Solutions Architecture propositions based upon Customer Requirements (Government & Commercial)
• Develop the technical solution and proposal content for government and commercial customers, to include link budgets, satellite and transponder carrier plans.
• Develop satellite solutions leveraging TrustComm’s core capabilities and teleport facilities.
• Work with vendors to determine best available satellite earth station and network gateway to meet customer requirements.
• Identify satellite capacity that can meet customer requirements.
• Fully engineer all aspects of a solution including network designs, network sizing, equipment specifications as well as transmission analyses.
• Develop satellite link budgets based on RFP/RFQ specifications. Develop Draft As-Built Documentation and prepare Bill of Materials. Provide other related technical support as required. Support the Sales team in business development meetings with customers.  This can include developing and presenting a presentation as well as following up with responses after meetings.
• Manage & maintain Sales Engineering processes.
• Coordinate with the Project Manager and third-party/external program vendors/contractors to support execution of a contract.
• Assist Sales in coordination of tests, demos and trials. Write white papers and develop requirements documents.
• Conduct customer-focused interactions with the Operations, Engineering and Business Development groups, additionally providing expert knowledge on service delivery and technical issues to the Sales & Marketing group.
• Develop pricing tools for standard service offerings and hardware.

Qualifications Include:
• Must be US Citizens, and be able to obtain and maintain a TS clearance.
• BA or BS in Computer Science, EE, Management Information Systems, or related field or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated 8-10+ years of progressive experience in Sales/Systems Engineering or Network Support/Operations.
• Demonstrated expert-level knowledge of the key technical aspects of military and commercial satellite services is a must.
• Demonstrated understanding of Mobile Satellite Services, Fixed Satellite Services and infrastructure.
• Demonstrated 5 years experience developing and implementing solutions with Satellite TDMA technologies such as iDirect, Linkway, and Hughes.
• Demonstrated well-developed engineering & decision-making skills including:
– Ability to recognize key requirements versus non-critical requirements.
– Ability to produce ROMs and quick turnaround estimates at the right stage of the opportunity.
– Ability to present complex issues clearly in verbal and written language.
• Demonstrated excellent software skills with prior experience in MS Office Suite. Experience with satellite link budget tools is highly desired.
• Must be able to multi-task.
• Ability to meet with the customer face-to-face on short notice in support of Sales efforts and ”surge” requirements.
• Ability to travel, mostly CONUS, and at most, average once a month.

Priorities to be Accomplished within the First Twelve Months
1. Review and recommend enhancement to Sales Engineering Process’s
2. Establish Technical Leadership for CS3/DISA/DITCO Task Orders
3. Develop solution/pricing strategies to support LPTA bids
4. Achieve 100% technically compliant Solutions Bids for RFQ’s
5. Manage technical supplier/vendor proposal support
6. Establish process for pre-staging CS3/C5 contract task orders

Total On-Target Compensation

TrustComm is positioned to reward performance. The target compensation is a combination of a base salary plus a performance-based bonus. The on-target-earnings range is between: $175K – $225K, with no cap on the performance bonus.
Pay cycle:
• Base salary paid semi-monthly, performance bonus paid semi-annually.

Executive Bios

Ian Canning
Chief Operating Officer / Hiring Manager

Experience: 25 years

Ian Canning has more than 25 years’ experience in the global satellite communications and telecommunications industries. He joined TrustComm as Chief Operating Officer in January 2012. In this position, he is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Company.

Prior to joining TrustComm, Mr. Canning served as a senior marketing executive for Stratos Global Corp., the leading global provider of advanced mobile and fixed-site remote communications solutions. He was responsible for Stratos’ global product and marketing portfolio, generating more than $700 million from advanced remote communications solutions, including the Stratos Advantage range of value-added services.

He served in a number of roles during his tenure at Stratos, including Vice President, Global Product Marketing (2010-11), Vice President, Marketing and Product Management (2007-10), Stratos’ Managing Director, EMEA and Vice President, Sales (2004-07), and Director, EMEA and Asia (1999-2001).

In addition, Mr. Canning’s experience includes posts with other leading players in the commercial satellite communications industry. From 2001-03, Mr. Canning served as Director, Business Development EMEA and later as Director, Sales EMEA for Iridium Communications Inc. From 1995-99, Mr. Canning served as Manager, Partnership Program for Inmarsat. From 1983-99, he held senior sales positions with a variety of global satellite, electronics and telecommunications companies, including Nortel Networks, Motorola Codex and Racal Datacom.

Mr. Canning earned an MBA from London’s Greenwich School of Management.

Bob Roe
Chief Executive Officer

Experience: 35 years

Bob Roe joined TrustComm as Chief Executive Officer in March 2012.

Mr. Roe has more than 35 years’ experience as a satellite communications professional, including senior management positions with Stratos Global Corp. from 1998-2011.

Prior to joining TrustComm, Mr. Roe served for more than five years as President and CEO of Stratos Government Services Inc. (SGSI) where he led highly successful programs to meet the COMSATCOM needs of the Dept. of Defense and other federal and state agencies. Under his leadership, SGSI deployed commercial satellite communications infrastructure for the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Navy Military Sealift Command and several other military agencies.

From 2006-11, Mr. Roe also served as chairman of the Mobile Satellite Users Association.

Prior to his career in commercial satellite communications, Mr. Roe served 22 years in the U.S. Navy as a communications and intelligence officer. His assignments included surface shipboard tours on cruisers and aircraft carriers, airborne commands in C-130 Hercules aircraft TACAMO Surveillance program, and Mobile Communications Units in Desert Storm.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management and a Master of Science Degree with honors in Business Management, from National Louis University in Evanston, Illinois.

Jennifer Maus

Director, Human Resources

Jennifer Maus joined TrustComm in April of 2007, and now serves as Director, Human Resources. Ms. Maus has over 15 years of experience in human resources, as well as operations and finance within the telecommunications industry.  Prior to joining TrustComm, Jennifer served as an Operations Manager for a private telecommunications company. Where she successfully ran daily operations, as well as managed areas of human resources and finance.

Ms. Maus’ specializes in talent management, employee learning and development, employee benefits, resource and budget management, organizational development and employee relations. In these areas, Jennifer has been successful in development and implementing on-boarding practices, performance management, and benefits management.

Ms. Maus studied music at the University of Houston to earn a B.A., and she earned her Masters in Strategic Human Resources Management from Michigan State University.
