The Position

The Satellite Network Systems Engineer will be responsible for all ground earth station network design, coordination, implementation, and maintenance of TrustComm Satellite Networks and Services across the globe. This position is based in TrustComm’s facilities at the Ellington Field Joint Reserve Military Base in Houston, Texas.

Responsibilities:

– Validate the appropriate configuration for TrustComm’s satellite networks.

– Evaluate, recommend remote and teleport ground station satellite and network equipment.

– Track services through the preparation of status reports.

– Document satellite and network configurations for TrustComm services.

– Assist in the network planning and recommendation of satellite links and terrestrial connectivity.

– Develop and maintain performance data of all TrustComm facilities.

– Coordinate implementation plans.

– Develop and maintain project plans and schedules to support completion of new/changes in services.

– Technical focal to resolve operational issues.

– Own and resolve complex technical issues with the operations of satellite network. Responsible to drive issues to closure.

– Work with end users and technical staff to implement and maintain systems that utilize industry best practices to meet business objectives, while maintaining the security and integrity of data and networks.

– Project manage technical issue resolutions that require cross functional team work.

– Provide Level 2&3 (high level) technical support to the Operations Center.

– Provide guidance ant training to less experienced personnel.

– Prepare, coordinate and support user training and documentation and provide technical assistance for post-implementation support issues.

– Review and monitor operational performance.

– Generate and design periodic performance metrics that ensure the proper operation of the satellite networks at all facilities.

– Work with satellite operators to investigate satellite link issues.

– Process Improvement.

– Work to continuously improve efficiency.

– Automate processes where practical.

– Maintain detailed documentation of network configuration and decisions.

– Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery

– Monitor and test satellite network performance and provide satellite network performance statistics and reports.

– Aid in the development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans, and maintain current knowledge of plan executables. – Perform satellite network and security audits.

–  Assist in network design and capacity planning.

– Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Basic Qualifications

– Desire a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Telecommunications engineering or Computer Science with Physics, or Mathematics.

– Ability to travel domestic and internationally as required (20%)

– Active in-scope DoD Secret clearance; or the ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government DoD Secret Clearance; Proof of U.S. Citizenship.

Skills/Abilities and Knowledge:
– 3+ years prior experience in teleport services and satellite network design and implementation.

– 1+ years of experience and familiarity with various Link budget analysis tools.

– Designing, planning, implementation and support iDirect technology based networks.

– Familiarity with other similar technology based networks like Newtec, Comtech, etc. strongly desirable.

– Experience in provisioning, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

– An understanding of digital modulation technologies DVB-S2, ACM, CCM, (QPSK – 64APSK modulation), and TDM/TDMA technologies is highly desirable.

– Knowledge of and experience with a wide range of technologies including routers, switches, VSAT, RF uplink and downlink hardware, satellite modems, and associated redundancy hardware.

– Must have experience with the implementation of satellite services (i.e. working with satellite modems/interfaces and network equipment/interfaces), including strong experience with specifying the configurations of satellite modems at the hub and customer facility.

– Possess an intermediate knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies and routing protocols (RIP, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, MPLS  traffic engineering and VPN technologies.

– Must have working knowledge of TCP, UDP and application layer protocols.

– Independent problem solving skills, must be well-balanced with understanding of system/business vs. customer goals to ensure the best technical and business solution is reached.

– Ability to work independently on diverse issues with minimal supervision.

– Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite (i.e. Excel, Work, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio).

– Possess excellent communication and presentation skills combined with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external organizations. 3+ years’ experience with satellite systems and RF engineering.

 

Priorities to be Accomplished within the First Twelve Months

Develop Satellite Link Budgets for DoD and customer requirements without supervision

Design and install iDirect in terrestrial network architectures

Become proficient in Mobile Satellite Services Tier 3

Provide Tier 3 support to managed services operations center

Develop Complex Satellite Solutions

Proficient in Omnigraffle and Visio

 

Total On-Target Compensation

TrustComm is positioned to reward performance. The target compensation is a combination of a base salary plus a performance-based bonus. The on-target-earnings range is between: $85K-$95K with no cap on the performance bonus.
Pay cycle:
• Base salary paid semi monthly, performance bonus paid semi-annually.

Executive Bios

 

Bob Roe
Chief Executive Officer

Experience: 35 years

Bob Roe joined TrustComm as Chief Executive Officer in March 2012.

Mr. Roe has more than 35 years’ experience as a satellite communications professional, including senior management positions with Stratos Global Corp. from 1998-2011.

Prior to joining TrustComm, Mr. Roe served for more than five years as President and CEO of Stratos Government Services Inc. (SGSI) where he led highly successful programs to meet the COMSATCOM needs of the Dept. of Defense and other federal and state agencies. Under his leadership, SGSI deployed commercial satellite communications infrastructure for the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Navy Military Sealift Command and several other military agencies.

From 2006-11, Mr. Roe also served as chairman of the Mobile Satellite Users Association.

Prior to his career in commercial satellite communications, Mr. Roe served 22 years in the U.S. Navy as a communications and intelligence officer. His assignments included surface shipboard tours on cruisers and aircraft carriers, airborne commands in C-130 Hercules aircraft TACAMO Surveillance program, and Mobile Communications Units in Desert Storm.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management and a Master of Science Degree with honors in Business Management, from National Louis University in Evanston, Illinois.

Ian Canning
Chief Operating Officer

Experience: 25 years

Ian Canning has more than 25 years’ experience in the global satellite communications and telecommunications industries. He joined TrustComm as Chief Operating Officer in January 2012. In this position, he is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Company.

Prior to joining TrustComm, Mr. Canning served as a senior marketing executive for Stratos Global Corp., the leading global provider of advanced mobile and fixed-site remote communications solutions. He was responsible for Stratos’ global product and marketing portfolio, generating more than $700 million from advanced remote communications solutions, including the Stratos Advantage range of value-added services.

He served in a number of roles during his tenure at Stratos, including Vice President, Global Product Marketing (2010-11), Vice President, Marketing and Product Management (2007-10), Stratos’ Managing Director, EMEA and Vice President, Sales (2004-07), and Director, EMEA and Asia (1999-2001).

In addition, Mr. Canning’s experience includes posts with other leading players in the commercial satellite communications industry. From 2001-03, Mr. Canning served as Director, Business Development EMEA and later as Director, Sales EMEA for Iridium Communications Inc. From 1995-99, Mr. Canning served as Manager, Partnership Program for Inmarsat. From 1983-99, he held senior sales positions with a variety of global satellite, electronics and telecommunications companies, including Nortel Networks, Motorola Codex and Racal Datacom.

Mr. Canning earned an MBA from London’s Greenwich School of Management.
